Is Your Brand Influencer Really An Influencer?

Social media influencers are known for their large follower base and popularity. A very trusted and popular influencer can be all that your brand needs to expand its audience, develop social proof and create user generated content.

Because of the trust and engagement they have had with their followers over time, potential clients believe their presence can be a major leap, thus increasing their own brand`s credibility.

The average Facebook or Twitter user has an engagement rate of only 0.5 – 1.0%. The average Instagram account, though, has an engagement rate of 3%. Any engagement rate above that, combined with a high number of followers, suggests that you are an influencer amongst your peers.

When looking for a media influencer to promote your brand, there are some factors you need to put into consideration.

  • 1. Check out their followers: Some influencers have fake followers that could be bots so it`s advisable you take a peek at their followers list to confirm if they are actually being followed by real people. You might need to take note of:
    a) Followers with no photos or post
    b) Irrelevant comments
    c) Followers/ following accounts that buys and sells followers
  • 2. Confirm Customer Engagement: If an influencer has so many followers, then the followers should be proportional to his engagements. Otherwise that could mean your influencer has a lot of fake followers.
  • 3. Use Automated tools: Searching through every follower to check for which is real or not might not be very effective and time efficient. There are tools available to help determine the number of fake followers.

*Follower`s check is an application that scan and determine the number of real followers from fake followers. If it discovers any fake follower on your account, they can go in and remove those users. Although, this isn`t 100% accurate but, it can give you a view of your follower`s breakdown.

If you have all these off your list, then your influencer might be the right one to partner with to help you advertise your brand.

Have you observed anything like this with your brand? Kindly share.
